A Breaking Bad God's Guide to Signing Books

In which I lie on a huge pile of books and a winner is announced

Hi everyone!

Exciting news! We have a winner for the Loki class set competition - congratulations to Joanne Simpson in Grimsby! And for everyone else, watch this space for giveaways in future!

The Tricky Title question

For me, it’s been a busy month of writing - I’ve nearly finished my first draft of book six - working title, A Bad God’s Guide to Monster Hunting, let’s see if it sticks. (If you don’t work in publishing, you might not know quite how many titles a lot of books go through before they find the right one. I think Loki 1 might have had about 50 titles before we hit on A Bad God’s Guide to Being Good!) For example, one of the many idea for book one was:

The 100% True Confessions of an Eleven-Year-Old God: Loki and the Giant Punishment

Loki abroad

While I’ve not been travelling myself, it’s nice to see copies of Loki do so. A kind reader, Heidi, spotted book four in Kuala Lumpur! If you have pics of Loki in other countries, please do send them, it gives me joy each time.

Signed books! And a new stamp!

I did manage a quick trip to south London to see my publisher, Walker…and sign a pile of Loki 5’s for independent bookshops. (If you want one of these, contact your local indie to see if they can bag you one!)

Obviously I had to climb on top of the pile like that scene in Breaking Bad where they lie on the money.

I’ve done one special copy with extra doodles too, so if you find it, let me know! It has Loki as a crocodile. Possibly an alligator. I still don’t know the difference and am far too lazy to look it up for this newsletter. I think Loki would approve of that. Also, Crocoloki/Lokigator is farting.

Oh, and I got a new stamp! Very excited to take that to signings.

Loki-a-likes!

Something people often ask me is for ideas of what to read when you’ve finished all the Lokis that are out so far. I now have a handy graphic of suggestions. Rather than trying to find books that are an exact fit for Loki, I’ve pulled out aspects of the Loki books and found books for each of those - so, for example, if you like Loki for its humour, go Boss of the Underworld or Cheat book, but if you like the adventure and trickster gods, go for Boy to Beat the Gods. Or if you like Loki’s bad behaviour, Cheat Book is the one for you!

Book 5 is coming! Look busy!

And finally, book 5 is coming in just over a month! Preorder it here!

Preorders are SO important for authors - they help retailers know there’s a demand for the book, so they’re more likely to give it a big push. Also it means the first week of sales looks better so you have a chance of being in a chart like the Sunday times bestsellers, as preorders all count as first week sales.

I’ll probably send one more newsletter before the book’s out! But first: finishing book six then going on holiday to Iceland! VERY excited to go to the place where Loki’s stories were first written down. Until then, have a lovely August!
